Originally created in 2002, Amii reached its current iteration in 2017 with the launch of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy. Amii is working toward a future where AI creates lasting, meaningful change that benefits people, industries and society, believing AI should not only drive innovation but also address real-world challenges — in healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and beyond.
Amii takes a human-centred approach to AI, ensuring it is not just impactful but also accessible and relatable with a focus on “people-powered discovery,” where AI innovation is driven by the diverse perspectives, insights and collaborations that come from human connection.
Amii is funded by the Province of Alberta, the Government of Canada through the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy at CIFAR, and leading industry sponsors, partnerships and grants across the Canadian economy.
